The Details
The Project
This project began as a traditional 2,000 square foot colonial with a two-car garage, four bedrooms, and two and a half baths. As my family’s needs evolved, so did the vision for the home.
The goal was to transform the existing structure into a modern, functional forever home while significantly expanding the footprint and upgrading every major system. The result is a 4,000+ square foot residence that includes a 900 square foot accessory dwelling unit, six bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, and multiple new living spaces designed for long-term comfort, flexibility, and efficiency.
Every aspect of the original home was reworked — from structural changes and layout improvements to new mechanical systems, finishes, and exterior details — creating a seamless blend between the original structure and the new additions.
The Challenge
The existing home featured a traditional colonial layout, limited living space, aging systems, and no opportunity for multi-generational living. The challenge was to dramatically expand the home while maintaining proper flow, functionality, and curb appeal — all while working within the constraints of the existing structure.
The Solution
-
Added a new master suite above the existing two-car garage
-
Constructed an oversized third-car garage with office and gym space above
-
Opened the first floor into a modern, open-concept layout
-
Reconfigured the second floor to connect seamlessly to the new master suite
-
Relocated the laundry to the second floor for improved daily functionality
